1. The month would start on the 1st and end on the last day of the month.
2. The Challenge would be open, any Photo you want to send in.
3. Only Two Entries per month.
4. The Winner would be Posted with Photo on the 10th of the following Month.
5. I would like to see it where you would only have to go to the Monthly Voting Topic and click on the Photo you are Voting for.

Your Thoughts:

You can. Just make the subject challenge in Photo Of The Day/Week folder.
If you look at the rules of the Photo of the Day/week you can challenge anyone anything (photography wise (they can take you up on it, or challenge anyone too. Just start a challenge. Example you could challenge everyone to take a ____ image. If they want (hope they do) take you up on your challenge (you can put in your own time frame in if you want, like one month). It's your Challenge. Also maybe they want to start their own challenge or challenge you back, that is ok too. The sky is the limit. You could have a lot of fun with it.

In fact I'm going to throw in a challenge just to show you how it can work.

I'm a member of a college group on flickr, they hold themed monthly comps chosen by the previous winner. This month its symmetry. We vote for 1st 2nd 3rd and the tutor tots up the scores and the winner chooses the next theme. Be a great idea here too, I'd be up for it.

Contests are great, create lots of interest but can be very disappointing to some. I hate contest where members have to vote, they tend to be bias. If your going to have a contest you should appoint judges, in my opinion the only fair way. Also, when you have contests and the same people win all the time it diswades others from participating so I suggest levels, beginner, amateur, advanced, professionals. Just an idea, don't want to confuse the issue.

Plus lots of lenses and Flash units for each.

I think to avoid disappointment - , naming them challenges as opposed to contests will help generate interest. It is a catch 22 when it comes to people who always win - in one respect others look up to aspire to achive what they can, yet as ART form it is always back down to an individual taste and preference. I think that challenging people to submit and work at their hobby/profession by introducing some sort of feedback and comparison is better than having none.

I am relatively new to this board and have really grown in the last few weeks and my ideals of what photography entails has changed and broadened considerably. Having a target to aim for and compare against is good for people who want to improve. I know I have been disappointed in the past with some tasks, but it has only helped drive my aspirations to work harder and improve, hopefuly to do better next time.

just a fyi, I never knew about thirds law before - something new to aim for and improve the framing perspective I never considered before

There is never an easy answer when it comes to contests as everyone has a different skill level and theme interest. Would be great to get more members feedback on this subject and maybe look to see what other photography sites have done , and judged to be successful or not.

I just want to learn how to capture that "Magic" moment in time and have it preserved as a memory.

Thank's Pat and Charkra I agree with you both. I know from the Spring Contest I ran last year, it's like pulling teeth even to get Reg Members to Summit any Photo's. I have it Posted on the Day,Week Contest Forum. If this one works out we can change it around some for March and try to apply some of your all's sugestions.

Thank's All !

To avoid the biases, might I suggest going back to the blind photo challenge that we tried a year or so ago. All entries are submitted to a single person who posts them with no names attached for voting by the members.

I read this, and the only thing I could think about was cleaning the lens or filter from the popping grease. What a mess, I could only imagine.

However, you do make a good point. Photographs are not always about the technical or artistic value...sometimes it is all about, "Hey, why didn't I think of that?"
