Why aren't my pictures listed to vote at?
I got an email a couple of hours after I uploaded a photo of the easter races a couple of weeks ago and replied to it with one sidecar picture and an Dutch Supersport600 picture.
The email has been send, but my pictures aren't displayed.

I won't vote on my own pictures so it's hard to explain my choice.
The word panning means to me that the subject is sharp and the background will be blurred out.
If I watch all the pictures there are a couple who are fullfilling my perception on the panning technique.

picture 1.

Great photo, but due to the long shutterspeed it isn't a real panning picture, all the action is frozen.
It sure is my favourite the colors are very good but due to the compression it lost some sharpness ( all my pictures both on this website or on other websites had some extra sharpness due to the compression )

Picture 2.

Probably on of the first attempts to a panning shot.
And also it isn't sharp in this picture it doesn't need to be sharp.
The black and gray color makes is very strong, which is a big plus.

Picture 3.

The colors of the wolf is almost the same in some places on the grass.
So it looks very busy my eyes were almost over the place and not on the subject itself.

Picture 4.

Great a motorcycle.
You were panning a little bit too hard.
Motorcycles who are riding are in the beginning difficult to follow, but with some training you'll probably get the hang of it.
In your picture it's obvious to see that you have some experience with panning.
If I watch the blur in the background it's almost a straght line which shows that you've mastered the panning technique, but it's only have to be fine tuned.

Picture 5.

It shows enough speed, but it has a sort of halo in it which tells me that you shot this one behind glass.

Picture 6.

Same comment as in picture 4.

Picture 7.

For me this is not a panning photo

Picture 8.

Same as in 7.

Picture 9.

Picture 10.

I don't mean to be offensive, but I don't feel that critiques have a place in the voting area or even at all during the voting stage of a contest.

Please see the "how to vote" area in the voting instructions.

It isn't critique!
I only explain my point of view and how I got to my 3 spots.

Yes, it definitely is critique. When you say that a contestant wasn't "panning hard enough," and saying another isn't a panning shot at all, you're critiquing. As such, you run the risk of swaying others' votes. And that's probably the basis of Steve's objection.

It would probably be a good idea for the contest moderators to do some screening of the entries (but some moderators are more capable of that than others) so that we're really voting on entries that truly qualify, but until then the best and fairest we can do is just vote... and vote without elaboration.

I knew this challenge was going to be a hard one. Let's keep this thread to just voting. If you would like we can make a new thread on "critiques, why I voted the way I did, etc... " One thing we need to keep in mind is that we have many different levels of photographers here. The first few image we received where clearly not panning (not posted). I also screened them and told them to try again This is why I posted the link "What is Panning?" then left it to the photographers to read and to send in their best try images again. I'm kind of stuck in the middle on this because one I want these to be fun for everyone and two a learning tool too. And with out knowing why it's hard to learn.

Challenges are still in their growing stages here. This is only a bump in the road and only make the challenges better in the long run.

Should we have a Critiques, why I voted the way I did thread? That way if you want to see it you can and if you don't want to see the critiques then you don't have to.
If we do have a critiques thread then I will leave everyone to edit their own posts to only show votes, so they can copy and past their "why they voted the way they did etc..." in the new critiques thread. This may help with the learning value of it. If we don't want a new thread for talking about the challenge then I can edit the posts to show only the votes.
What do you guys think? Vote YES or NO

"The April Challenge will be on: "Panning / Showing Speed ". It will run from April 1 to April 30. The key hear is " Showing Speed!"

This is true, and one reason it was left to the photographer view. They may even seen it as showing speed with a fast shutter. Even though when I first seen the topic I thought Panning only myself (I didn't pick the topic (I thought it may be to hard for some)) one good thing is that we can see that there are many views of the topic. Isn't that one thing a photographer does see the other views?

Critiques Are NOT part of the voting section. Panning is a difficult subject. But how do we learn without trial and error. All comments should be kept out of the Voting Area. BTW Photo #2 was taken out of date. it shows taken in March. Not in the April time frame. I Vote "NO Critiques" We have a Critiques Section !

These Challenges are only meant to show Each Photographer what Topics they may need to work for there own benefit. Everyone is not a Professional in all areas. But we need to try different Topics, We may even surprise ourselves.

I vote No.

The existing Critiques folder is there specifically for people requesting direct feedback, but it could easily also be applied to providing critiques for contest photos. Some contestants may not care to see feedback on their photos, but it would be easy enough for contestants to see the feedback if they wanted.

I don't know if it's possible for the moderators to delete individual posts in a thread, but one way to enforce the "no comments" rule is to simply disallow (and even delete) any post that includes anything more than the vote itself.
