Spring Photo Contest

Spring Photo Contest - 2008

I would like to make a challenge to all for a Spring Photo Contest ! I would like the Subject to be an Open one. Pick your own Spring Photo Contest "Photo".

The Contest would run from April 1 to May 31st. Giving all plenty of time and not be rushed. Have 3 Winners 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Class. On the Honor System all Photo's would have to be taken during the above time frame, No Archives !

Try to hold Photo's to 5 of your best !

The Winner's would be announced on June 15th.

I will make up 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Certificates and send them to the winner's. Hopefully they can be posted here on the Net also.

I'm game if there is enough interest in this. However, lets be honest with outselves and don't post saying your interested if you don't really think you will be able to follow through. There have been too many occasions lately when everyone jumps up and down at a photo challenge, and then nobody wants to submit any pictures.

That being said, I think this is a good idea, and one that deserves a chance.

OK, I'm game as well. However I won't be participating. My camera just messed up my pc and now it arrived in the dustbin anyway. Unfortunately.

If people are interested let's get this show on the road, however seen the past I also am not that sure anymore IF people are interested

Sounds like a great idea, I may have to do quite a bit of driving. Around here old barns don't stay around to long before someone starts tearing all the wood of in the middle of the night. You just end up with a frame.

OK, let's get it done Photographers. We have plenty of time so know one is rushed. Let's have some fun for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place !

Your right Chica this will tell us how many Photographers are out there. Glad to have you on Board Chica, Maybe you can get your camera fixed in time to shoot also. I love your work !

I'll try to participate, but right now I'm busy with shooting soccer and baseball (and soon, track & field), plus getting my business and its website set up, and this weekend I'm photographing and judging at the regional Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in Sacramento. It's my fifth year judging and my second year photographing it. I'm not done processing last Wednesday's soccer game, but I've got the science fair Saturday and another two soccer games Monday. And once my website goes up, I've got to notify somewhere between 100-200 high schools that they've got wrestling and/or soccer pictures available for viewing and purchase. And based on my soccer photos, I've got a growing number of parents asking how much I'd charge to do their kid's senior portraits. (I don't have a studio space -- outdoor shots would be cool -- and I have no idea what I would even charge.)

The light at the end of the tunnel is sometimes an oncoming train.

Lots of cool old barns in my area. Not lots of time to visit them.

I Spring Contest sounds good, my area has lots of old barns and farms but not sure if it would be fair too all. Since it's Spring I think the theme should be flowers or birds, or both, something more appropriate to the season. Just a suggestion. I'm in either way.

I only see a few problems with it.
This is why we went to the photo of the week/day idea. (which with the photo of the week/day you can post a challenge anytime just like you are asking to do with a "old barn" image etc..) or post what you want too, you can also past post images, Don't forget people get busy (I know I have been)

1) In the past (contests) we have had deadlines with topics and very few posted and some didn't post until the very end after being begged for entries.

2) Sometimes the topic is too hard for some people. ex: I would have to drive out to the country to get a old barn image. (don't forget this is world wide) It would be hard for someone in Kansas to shoot a mountain range.

I have a hard time (mostly because of time) to get any image that I am not getting paid to do. If I was doing a wedding out in the country and came across a barn I could get that but who knows when I would get the chance. I may be shooting models for a week strait.

I vote to stay with the photo of the day/week idea because you can still do k8mia's idea on there plus it is more flexible (because you can post challenges and can post at any time or if you don't want to take the challenge then that is good too) If you want to just vote on who is best "Old Barn" etc.. you could still do that too on there (say so on the challenge etc). You don't have to post your image for a challenge the same week either For an example: Week #2-#7 had a few challenges if you want to take the challenge you could post an image the same week or when ever (many weeks later etc, just say it's for X challenge and post it on the week you took the image.)

You know what we will do?

We will just open a (sticky) topic at the photo of the day/week section calling it the "Spring Photo Contest".

Everybody wanting one or more of their photos being voted on in the end receives a number and we all vote openly. I don't really think voting openly is such a problem because we're all adults and all of us here are reliable people


How does that sound?

Ok Chica, I need you and Greg to get the details set up. That's out of my league. I know people are busy and I respect that. All I'm asking is that every one make what effort that they can, even if it's only 1 Photo. The subject doesn't matter there are those who wouldn't agree on any subject. We have too many Great Photographers here not to be able to run a GREAT Contest. Contact your friends on the Net and your other Photography friends and invite them to join the Contest. They might decide to stay with us !

The problem with your idea is we don't all get Spring at the same time. I am in upstate NY, we may not get SPRING here for another 2 weeks if we are lucky, it snowed yesterday and was down to 5 degrees last night. I'm sure 'm not the only one confronted with this so a Spring conteset should probable run till the end of May as suggested, but could not be part of aweekly unless it comes in mid to late May.

You are right the photo of the day/week should stay as it is. That is why I kept Spring Contest from April 1 to May 31st, to give all enough time enter the Contest and have good time.

I'm fine with the idea as it has been hashed out. If k8mia would like to start the thread in either the POTD/W forum or in the General forum, either I or Chica will attach the sticky to it. I don't see why one of the admins has to be the one to get things started. This is James' baby, and he should be able to do it the way he wants to. if it turns out to be a success, then we can start to do it more regularly.

Personally, I'm stoked!

I totally agree with what Steve said! I really can't wait to see all of the great photography that's going to be submitted.

I withdraw the crocus close up picture because it is pixilated.

There's not much in the way of Spring beauty yet except crocuses. Here's another attempt.

I thought we were going to use Barns in this contest as well as flowers and such. I posted one shot of a barn i took yesterday and was told it looked like Fall, well that's what it looks like up here. Are we accepting Barn shots or not, please advise? In any event here is another Barn Photo.

Susuyaya and patman10 can you please both re-enter the photos in the spring contest thread at "show your pictures" - since the rest of the participants posted their entries there.

And yes, of course, everything is allowed: barnes, flowers or whatever makes you think of spring
