With spring just around the corner, I often get excited to see these first tiny arrivals.

I am not all that sure, but I am thinking that these are called "Field Pansy's." They look pretty much like a pansy and these are about 1 cm. across in diameter. This one here I photographed on the front lawn at the place of my employment, during my lunch break. During the summer about 75% of the insect photos that I take are at work during luch!

This particular small flower, somewhat resembles and orchid, though the books I have reference it to be called "Heal-All," probably due to its use many years ago for medicinal purposes.

Of course what would a flower be, without a bee? However, this is not a bee but a bee mimic, often referred to as a "Hover Fly, or Syrphid Fly." Their larvae are called by a very unsavory name, "rattailed maggot."

Yeah it is a pretty safe bet that there will be a "bug" in there somewhere, especially when shooing macro but every now and then I can be surprising and leave one out occasionally.

Thanks stari and SallyG

I really like the first image , especially with the detail and the colour range that the flower has. Great shot.

Thanks Charkra. Those flowers are so tiny and they grow in rather large groups close to the ground, lovely they are.
