this is a P. regalis. aka indian ornamental. these are notorious for being very shy, veryvery fast, and posess some of the most potent venom of all tarantulas..though not deadly this is still a "look but dont touch" tarantula...this is a small juvinile, but these get about 8.5 inches full grown.

avicularia versicolor - Just love that beautiful looking creature, You have managed to capture a couple of wonderful images, which really makes you want to hug one (Although I am not sure I would be up for that)

I am glad my kids have only aspired to frogs and small dogs, not too sure if I would be happy if their interest started to peak at spiders...

They are really beautiful creatures and must be an experience to be able to live with them (like in a national geographic environment)

haha...we have the highest concentration of diffrent species right here in the U.S.(if thats where your from) and also like i stated before..the avicularia versicolor is sweeter than any dog ive ever seen(though as there main defence they shoot poop like a water gub-no joke) so almost as bad as a dog in that aspect. and to be honest..if your kids or anyones kids got into tarantulas now..who knows, maybe they may be the next Rick C. west( a famous photographer/ arachnologist, who is most famous for his programs on the discovery networks) there truely alot less "scary once you acually take the time to research them some...seriously. and with over 1000 different species world wide know in he hobby, one can never get bored with them. plus new species are discovered every month.

I think one has to be a real professional in order to be able to distinguish between spiders and which of them are 'sweeter than a puppy dog'

I keep a respected distance from them - just don't want to take any chances. Besides... for me that would mean a total flip around of thinking.

haha...no im no professinal, but let me put it like this...puppies bite and sometimes it hurts you bleed but yet you eventually play with it again. right? if that puppy grows up and attacks someone it hurts even more...and usually no one will play ith that dog again. tarantulas are the same in that aspect. like for instance the tarantula listed first on this thread(obt) look at its pose..its pissed! ready to bite(not a sweet as a puppy but rather meaner than a junk yard dog!) trust me it isnt hard to distinguish the diffrence between a nice T(or puppy) or a mean T(or junk yard dog) all can bite and all will but you still love em anyway. haha. and yes i know most people are wired to belive "ahhhh spider kill it" but once you look at there level you will change that thought.

this is a theraphodesa blondi(baby) but this is the species that will get up to 13 inches diagnal leg span.lagest species in the world. they have urticating hairs on there abdomen they flick off as a defence. and this species is the worst. the hairs can cause blindness, and severe blistering rashes. also a very difficult species to rear.
