Alright, this is going to seem like an odd request, but here it goes anyway. I am looking to get several older SLR/Medium Format/Rangefinder cameras that are no longer functional. Of course, I will be happy to discus ones that work, but I don't want to put a whole lot of money in this.

What I am trying to accomplish is to decorate around the house with these older broken cameras. I know that it is getting less and less likely that owners of film cameras are wanting to spend money to fix them when they fail, and hate to throw them away. What I am wanting to do is give them a new lease on life. Cameras are as much works of art as the pictures that they help create. I really want to highlight that ideal in my decorations.

I've placed an ad in the Buy&Sell section for this, but I wanted to put a post on here as well. If you have any other ideas as to where I can locate these pieces please let me know. If you have a camera you want to get rid of, email or PM me.

Thanks,
Greg

As some here know, I have kind of a camera collecting habit... most of the better deals tend to be thrift stores and flea markets.

Antique shops always have cameras but usually want unrealistically/insanely/idiotically high prices.

Yard sales can be good but I've found that many people associate "antique" with "valuable" and think they're going to get rich from Grandpa's old Argus. But, sometimes people just want some things gone. I picked up an old Bogen enlarger for a buck about a while back, and converted it to a copy stand.

If you catch Goodwill when they have sales, you can sometimes get them for a buck or less.

If you're not concerned with functionality, Ebay is an excellent source. In fact, sometimes you can get package deals on several cameras "as is" because the seller is too lazy to test them (or doesn't know how).

Also, I've recieved a lot of responses by advertising on Craigslist in the wanted section. But, a lot of people see you as an opportunity to get their money back from cameras they couldn't hardly give away. (mostly cheap/obselete digital cameras and video cameras) Sometimes you hit paydirt though, and come across someone wanting to just give a camera a new home.

You know, I hadn't even thought about Goodwill having cameras. I might have to give that a shot, we have many stores in the area. I've thought about Ebay, but I really get lost trying to figure out how things are done there, so I tend to shy away from it. I might have to bite the bullet and give that a shot. Whats the worse that can happen...I get a camera that doesn't work...big deal.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check into them, and hopefully can find some nice specimens similar to what you have posted here. Love the flash on it...wonder if it tilts up to bounce off the ceiling .
