Issue with a damaged Nikon 24 -120

I damaged my 24 -120 and sent it for repair to the authorized service center in UAE.
They call me and say that they are not able to repair the lens and asks me if I would like to take a replacement by paying about 60% cost for a new lens lens.

Can anyone suggest if approaching Nikon directly is a good move ?

That's Nikon's policy. A refurbished lens costs about $599 from B&H Photo. A new lens is $1096 from B&H Photo. Sixty percent of $1096 is approx $438. Sounds like they are offering you a decent deal on a NEW lens. Of course if you had gone to an independent repair shop it would probably cost much less, but you would not have a new lens either.
