Do you mean "Closeup" +1,+2 & +4?
The depth of focus with them is very shallow to start with. I just tried it with a D90. It won't let me get much closer than the normal lens and that was with all 3 lenses. They seem to work much better on a manual slr. Maybe it's something in the lens construction of the auto focus lens.

Can anyone else offer more info?

O.k. I just tried my Nikon FG. The normal 50mm lens won't focus less than 2 feet. The closeup lenses let me focus 4-6" away.
The AF lens already will focus about 8". With the closeup lenses it's about 4 or 5 inches away.

Watch you DOF, and camera movement. Use a tripod if you have one.

I thought I'd shared this earlier, but it seems to have been lost in cyberspace.

One interesting thing that I've learned using Closeup Diopters is to remove the UV or Skylight filters before attaching the adapters. The reason is that leaving them on will most often induce chromatic aberrations.
