So I have been researching away on information about HDR Images. it is truly a great art. I have even downloaded HDR exclusive software and will be testing various types for a while and keeping you all informed as to the ones I like Vs. the ones I do not like. But that’s not today’s issue. so I have learned that there are 3 ways to achieve HDR imaging. In this section I will be covering the most popular which is Dynamic Range. Using this method is just a matter of setting up your camera on a sturdy tripod, set the white balance for the scene and using a remote shutter release. Adjust (or set your bracketing) to shoot 3 or more exposure levels for light intensity (EV +/- 1 or 2 works nice) One draw back to this method is that it is only really effective with a single main light source. Have a single local focal length.

Here is a simple way to start and then you can fine tune your skills through practice

- Set camera for bracketing 3 or more photos

- Adjust white balance

- Setup and mount camera to tripod and cable or remote release

- Set your camera to AP priority mode.

- Set your Aperture to f8 (just a starting point. tweak it as desired some other time)

- Press your shutter release half way to find and record the shutter speed.

- Switch to full manual and adjust the camera setting to f8 and what ever the shutter speed was.

- Take your best shots.

You can then follow through into post processing. Photoshop of course being the MOST common software for the next faze which is to open all the images and use the HDR photo merge tool.

Oh and just in case you were wondering, No you can not PROPERLY create an HDR image with one raw file. (but it does look pretty neat)

Next - My personal favorite technique- Depth of Field
