My first photo project for school is capturing speed....i'm having a really difficult time with this!! I can't seem to get my setings right.

Ugh...I am not allowed to use water as my subject and I am not allowed to use my flash...ugh

I will post some of my pictures as soon as this silly thing lets me upload them. (darn computer anyway!)

This should be a pretty easy assignment. Have you thought about panning motion? You can photograph a car going down a street with a moderate shutter speed following the motion. The car will be sharp while the background is blurred. You could also use an even slower shutter speed and keep the background sharp and the car blurred as it goes by.

The same can be done with animals running around in the yard. Another thought would be to go out on a windy day in a field with long weeds or hay and photograph them in motion against a still object like a tree.

A little late on this one but, when I took the course they didn't say you couldn't do water so, I did water. That was a few years ago. The critique I received was "I would have rather seen a child on a bicycle".
