A Vampire’s Victim

Ok so not that the title has thrown you off, I better explain.

So on the 21st of this month I have a photoshoot with two models who have never met. Both are relatively new but one model does have some experience, the other - not so much. It is my first Scene type shoot ever, so I thought I would go over my thoughts and yes feelings as I prepare for this.

As I write this my nerves are a wreck and I keep going through the shoot in my head. Just writing these first lines I have miss spelled every other word. I have secured a nice little location. A house with a very large living room - 20×30. the house has some older furniture, old wood rocker, a leather wrapped chair, some cast iron lights and a cast iron wax candle lantern. Also at my disposal is a mock bear skin and a full length mirror.

In my head I can picture the model sitting in the old rocker in a robe reading an old book. The vampire behind her ready to bite, a mirror sitting to the side of her with no reflection of the vampire but of the victim (photoshop).

I can picture the victim laying on the bear skin wrapped up in silk having already been bitten with a slight bit of blood dripping down her neck.

Have I forgot anything? lights, camera, lenses? will I have enough props to pull this off? how long will it take me to set up? will the models be able to work well together? look right together? will my assistant (very new to photography) be able to act professional with the models? will the MUA and hair stylist be able to pull off the look I am searching for?

These are just some of the questions that flow through my head as I write this, but the big one I ask myself is, can I pull this off.

So I figured I would write this down because I know I am not alone in the worries that some of us face before a shoot. The sheer work that we as photographer put into a shoot can never be repaid. We do it because we love it.

All of this sounds exciting. Please post some shots when you are done. Can’t wait to see them.

LOL I will post some if they are appropriate for the forum. not doing anything nude but they may be provocative in some ways

I also look forward to hearing your experiences from this shoot, John.

haha Thanks Bob. I’m pretty nervous about this. It’s one of those things I kinda wish I was more the assistant but I know I gotta get my feet wet here and do what I started out to do.

I’m kind of a vampire junkie personally, I’m just into that stuff (and werewolves, and my own monsters etc.). I prefer macro and landscape photography myself, but your topic’s caught my attention. Whatever you or your model do with makeup- NO BLACK LIPSTICK! Shading the eyes a bit or some blood on the vamp’s lip (depending on color or black and white shots) could add a bit of a chiller feeling to the pictures. It may depend what time era your doing too- hope that helps-

Lol ok a vampire guru. That’s cool. Honestly, I am shooting for kind of a Van Helsing effect meets modern day. No black lipstick or anything.

stick figures are good for thinking with :-). It cuts the stress if you come with a sort of a plan. (but I’m sure you know that already!) Good luck.
